-The following statement was adopted by participating organizations of the 1st Annual Black Star Games.

The BSG is a unique opportunity for the Black community and organizations to come together to engage in various physical activities as a way of promoting teamwork and unity.

Black people are not only a strong people spiritually and mentally, but also physically.

Throughout our history we’ve always balanced mental, spiritual, physical exercise with fun. With the Black Star Games, we hope to begin to restore that necessary balance within our organizations and the Black community.

The Black Star Games were inspired by the wisdom of the elders, who stressed the importance of learning from the past and the importance of settling all petty differences for the sake of community.

The Black Star Games comes in this tradition combining athletics with activism as a tool to educate, and demonstrate through sports that it takes unified collective teamwork to triumph in times of hardship.

The two most important principles of the Black Star Games are unity and teamwork. Disunity, individualism, sectarianism, and petty competition have been prevalent too long amongst organizations.

These problems have penetrated the movement in our community so deeply, that we have become ineffective in our ultimate goal of unifying the Black community.

As activists, we are obligated to exemplify the behaviors we so often promote, unity, collectivism, and peace.

Experience has proven that without unity and trust amongst organizations who are rooted in the community, there will be no unity within the Black community.

Though the Black Star Games will consist of friendly competition, which is common in athletics, there will not be any losers, only winners. We all win when we are able put aside our differences for the sake of collective progress.

We pray that the unity and teamwork that will be displayed in the Black Star Games will inspire the movement toward social change within the Black community and carry over into our organizational relationships.

The Black Star Games have the potential to unify organizations, which ultimately benefits the community. Only through working together in unity will we be able to change the conditions of our communities.

We will be sponsoring events for planning, fund raising and entertainment leading up to this year’s BSG. Click Here4More:BSG’09 Upcoming Events
